Biology is the science of whatever concerns life and living organisms, and diversity can be described in terms of the diversity of the species, taxonomical diversity, genetic diversity, the diversity of species inside an ecosystem, and the diversity of species and ecosystems within a landscape or biogeographical region. What we take for granted, what we observe in nature, has actually developed through natural selection and evolution, against all reasonable odds, for over 3.7 billion years.
Here, we focus on this extraordinary variety of life on Earth, from genes and species to ecosystems, and the valuable functions they provide.
